Dr. Sophia Bakogianni

Dr Sophia Bakogianni is an archaeologist – art historian at the Byzantine and Christian Museum. She is also a researcher of cultural informatics and digital culture. She has expertise in art history, cultural heritage management and administration of cultural institutions, digital and social media applications in museums and cultural organisations, as well as audience research and evaluation of digital applications. She has taught museology and digital applications in the field of culture and has worked as a researcher in several co-funded research projects at the University of the Aegean and the Ministry of Culture.

She holds a B.A. in Archaeology and an M.A. in Art History from the Department of History and Archaeology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She also holds two postgraduate degrees from the Hellenic Open University, one in Cultural Management (M.A.) and one in Education Studies (M.Ed.). He holds a PhD in “Social Information Systems” from the Open University of Cyprus. The title of her PhD Thesis is: “UnderstandingMuseum Social Media” and it concerns the experiences of Social Media users during their interaction with museums on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter/ X.

Her research interests cover topics such as: art history and contemporary cultural creation, cultural heritage and its management, social media in museums and audience evaluation surveys of cultural organisations and users of digital applications. She is also a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Communication, Media and Culture of Panteion University on the evaluation of user experience in virtual environments of museums and cultural organizations under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Kostas Karpouzis.
